Unauthorised Event Organised by Usama Hasan (Updated)
UPDATE 12/9/2011 :
After consultation with the local police, in order to minimise chances of disorder, the Trust allowed the event to take place yesterday, but only after clearly informing attendees of the masjid that the event was unauthorised. It is to be noted that the police completely agreed with the position taken by the Trust and were themselves unhappy that this controversial topic was being addressed by Usama Hasan in this manner.
Alhamdu lillaah, the attendees of the masjid voted with their feet, and only 10 to 15 people attended the event - almost all of whom were members of the Hasan family and travellers from afar. This colossal flop shows that the local Community has no interest in the political shenanigans of Usama Hasan and his family.
Statement by the Trust on the Unauthorised Event Organised by Usama Hasan at Masjid al-Tawhid
Usama Hasan, ex-Trustee of Masjid & Madrasah al-Tawhid, has recently circulated an email stating that he has organised an event this Sunday 11th September 2011 at the Masjid, titled :
10 YEARS ON FROM 9/11 & THE "WAR ON TERROR": THE TASK FACING UK MUSLIMS
The Trust would like to clarify that although it considers this to be an important subject that needs to be addressed by Muslims in the UK, it does not desire that the Masjid be embroiled in such a controversial issue, particularly when it is clear that Usama Hasan is using the Masjid as a platform for furthering his own controversial political agendas. This is in fact one of the reasons why Usama Hasan was expelled from the Trust in February 2011.
None of the Trustees, except perhaps Dr Liaquat Ali who is Usama Hasan's brother-in-law, were informed of this event being organised in the Masjid. This is clear breach of procedure. The majority of Trustees – nine out of ten – do not approve of this event, and would suggest that Usama Hasan seeks an alternative venue for holding it. We reiterate that the Masjid does not belong to a particular family to do as they please when they please.
Further, in his email Usama Hasan himself states "Some people may try to disrupt it". The fact that Usama Hasan himself is expecting trouble puts additional responsibility on the Trustees to ensure that necessary precautionary measures are taken to ensure the safety of all members of the Community.
The Trust will not allow the good name of the Masjid to be further tarnished through these unauthorised controversial events, and hence the Trust will not authorise this event to go ahead.
